Body Armour Information

National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Body Armour Standards.

A common industry standard for defining ballistic threat levels & testing requirements. The NIJ table defines the types of armour required to provide effective protection against varying ammunition & bullet velocities. Soft armour is required to prevent penetration from six consecutive bullets from two types of ammunition. Blunt trauma, impact to the body & effectiveness when wet are also factored into NIJ testing. Armour plates supplement soft armour to tackle munitions featured in NIJ levels III IV.
